Betul, 15 September (HIST). Heavy rains that started on Friday morning in all the districts of the state including the capital Bhopal continued till late night. During this period, two major incidents have come to light in Betul district. An auto rickshaw was washed away in the strong current of Bhaisahi river at around 5 pm in village Muaria of Bordehi police station area of Betul. During this time there were four people in it. On receiving the information, police reached the spot and started searching for him, but could not trace him till late night. Local police and administrative officials are present at the spot.
At the same time, seven students of class 11th and 12th who went to school in Chicholi of Betul district did not return home till late night. It is feared that the children are trapped somewhere due to floods in the rivers falling between the village and the school. Police forces of two police stations are busy searching for them. Information about the missing children was messaged from the village on WhatsApp group. His exam was on Friday at 11 am. After the examination was over at 4.30 pm, the children had to return to the village, but they did not reach home till 11 pm.
It has been raining heavily in Madhya Pradesh for the last three days. On Friday also, there was heavy rain in more than 21 districts including Bhopal and Indore. Narmadapuram district got the most. Pachmarhi in the district received 5.7 inches of water in 9 hours. Due to heavy rains, the gates of 6 dams of the state had to be opened. 13 gates each of Bargi Dam in Jabalpur and Tawa Dam in Narmadapuram were opened. Due to the rising of Wainganga river, 5 gates of Sanjay Sarovar Dam have been opened. Apart from these, 7 gates of Satpura Dam have been kept open at the level of 11 feet. 3 gates of Parsdoh Dam have also been opened. All 8 gates of Machhagora Dam have been opened in Chhindwara.
According to the Meteorological Department, Narmadapuram city received 3.4 inches of rain on Friday. There was 3.5 inches of rain in Betul, 2.5 inches in Seoni, 1.8 inches in Bhopal district, 1 inch in Bhopal city, 1.5 inches in Narsinghpur, 1.1 inches in Raisen-Sagar. More than half an inch of water fell in Indore, Ratlam, Malajkhand. It also rained in Sidhi, Satna, Rewa, Khajuraho, Mandla, Dhar, Guna, Khandwa, Ujjain and Damoh.
For the first time this season in Narmadapuram, all the 13 gates of Tawa Dam have been opened up to 20-20 feet. 4,08,265 cusecs of water is being released from these. Due to this, the water level is increasing rapidly at Sethani Ghat of Narmada River. There is a possibility of water logging in low-lying areas. In view of the situation, school holiday has been declared on Saturday.
Indore also received the heaviest rain of the season after 4 pm on Friday evening. Due to reduced visibility, headlights of vehicles had to be switched on. The lower colonies were flooded. In view of the warning of heavy rain, Collector Dr. Ilaiyaraaja T has declared holiday on Saturday in all government and non-government schools of the district. All schools in Harda and Betul will also remain closed on Saturday.
Rivers and drains overflowed due to heavy rains in Betul district. Bhainsai river is also in spate on Chhipanya-Pipariya road of Amla development block. Despite there being water on the river bridge, an auto driver and three people traveling in it tried to cross the bridge on Friday evening. At the same time, due to the strong flow of water, the auto came to the bank of the bridge and within no time all four people along with the auto were swept away in the river. After receiving the information, police and administrative officials reached the spot and started searching for those who were found floating in the river. According to Bordehi police station in-charge Sarvind Dhurve, the names of auto driver Imrat Pandram, Ganesh Irpache and Ramsingh Vishwakarma have emerged among those who drowned in the river.
Seven children who went to take exams did not return home from school
On Friday, seven students from village Gava Jhadap had reached the government school of village Chuna Hazuri in Chicholi development block of the district to appear for the quarterly examination of classes 11th and 12th. He has not been found anywhere since he left school after giving the exam at 4.30 pm. After receiving the information, the administration and police are making efforts to trace them.
DPC Sanjeev Srivastava said that the school teacher had asked all the children to stay in school or at the homes of relatives in the village due to flooding in the rivers and drains. It is likely that all the children have stayed at relatives’ houses in nearby villages Chikhali and Dhumka. There is a network problem due to which BEO, BRC and teachers have been sent.
The family is worried about the children not reaching home. The distance from village Chuna Hazuri to village Gawajhadap is seven km. There are five drains and one river on the way. There is no higher secondary school in Gawajhadap village, so the students here go to Chunahjuri school. Despite heavy rain on Friday, Satpal Mangulal Uike, Madhu Jirati Ivane, Chhaya Gopal Yadav, Sushma Sunil Yadav, Deepika Bakas Ivane, Deepika Manohari Marskole and Shivkumar Dharamsing Uike went to school to appear for the quarterly examination.
